INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The ability to develop and implement workable, sustainable and effective development models in the South African development space is one of the key factors contributing towards Kagiso Trust’s position as one of South Africa’s leading development agencies.
The official youth unemployment rate in South Africa sat at 63.9% in the first quarter of 2021. By way of comparison, the official youth unemployment rates in the USA* and the United Kingdom** currently sit at around 10%, with Brazil at 32%***. This is a concerning situation and clearly, much needs to be done in South Africa to address this situation, hence the coming into existence of KT’s Youth Development Framework.
Kagiso Trust’s Youth Development Framework has resulted in the development of a model that has paved way for an internship programme that has now seen its first cohort of unemployed graduates enter the workspace to gain necessary skills and experience.
Kagiso Trust welcomed its first cohort of interns on the 1st of July 2022. The interns will be fulfilling various roles within Kagiso Trust, in the areas of Civil Society, Local Government, Legal, Programmes Management, Social Economic Development, Communication & Marketing, Education, Finance, Policy Development and Human Resources.
The next 12 months will see the cohorts gain skills and experience that will help them launch successful careers

To date the interns have been through two weeks of intensive orientation in order to gain an understanding of the KT environment, partners, and projects through presentations and facilitated site visits. For the duration of the internship, every intern will be assigned a mentor, with industry experience, to guide them along this journey.
They are already settling in well and are hard at work and already making excellent contributions the business.
“It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome our first cohort of interns, all with such outstanding credentials. We are looking forward to providing them with a glimpse into the world of work as well providing them with the tools that will empower and support their career goals. At Kagiso Trust we believe in developing and unlocking the potential of the young and next generation of leaders “says CEO Mankodi Moitse.
