Career Day in Sekhukhune

A career day hosted by Kagiso Trust will give Grades 11 & 12 an enticing glimpse of opportunities available after the schooling year.

JOHANNESBURG: Kagiso Trust, one of South Africa’s leading development agencies, will host a Career Day for more than 3000 Mathematics and Science learners at the Sehlaku Secondary School in Driekop, Limpopo, on 8 September 2022, World Literacy Day. This day is for all the schools participating in the Kagiso Trust’s Beyer’s Naude Schools Development Programme in the Sekhukhune East Districts of Bogwasha, Driekop, Moroke and Tubatse circuits.

This career day will bring experts, business leaders and technocrats in different fields to share their experiences. There will be exhibitions of new and sought-after careers such as aviation, media, technology, logistics and supply chain, amongst others. Providing learners with the necessary tools to plan for the future by exposing them to various options and the key steps to pursue future goals.

The jam-packed programme of events will be presented by Capricorn FM’s popular breakfast show presenter, Mpho Mashita. It will feature a motivational talk by Skeem Saam actor and talk show host Amanda Manku. Designed to be both educational and entertaining, it will highlight the world of possibilities open to learners beyond matric.

There is an African Proverb that goes, “it takes a village to raise a child”. Hence, as it takes a village to educate a child, Mankodi Moitse, the Trust’s CEO, says, “The Career Day will highlight just how true that saying is. We call on, the community of Sekhukhune,  The Businesses, Civil structures; Faith-based Organisations and Institutions to support and be part of the KT education programme, because their collaboration and dedication are vital in ensuring success for the Sekhukhune learners, especially the class of  2022.

Kagiso Trust has been partnering with government, communities and partner organisations for the last 30 years to fix the historical and systemic problems and hindrances in South Africa’s education system. As a self-funded organisation, it works on developing sustainable programmes that have the highest impact on the education system, to assist learners on their journey to a prosperous life after schooling.

The Beyers Naude Schools Development Programme (BNSDP), started in the Vhembe district in Limpopo, grew to include schools in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district in the Free State. Those schools continue to show a successful academic record over the years, proving the programme’s sustainability and viability. The Trust has also been involved in teacher development and programmes to prepare children for the digital transformation of the fourth industrial revolution.

“With the buy-in of all role players, we can create exciting outcomes for our learners and youth,” says Moitse. “When we join hands to educate and develop our children, the sky’s the limit to what they can achieve.”
